The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) Municipality has recently launched a new traffic fine payment system that allows motorists to make payments conveniently through the messaging platform WhatsApp.

According to the metro's spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, this new system is the municipality’s way of providing a more convenient way to make payments, enhancing the user experience, and simplifying the process as WhatsApp is more accessible.

It also means that residents and motorists of the CoE will no longer be paying their traffic fines through the Pay City website as they did before.

Payment process via the CoE WhatsApp chatbot:

  • Save the chatbot number 060 667 7177 and start a conversation by sending ‘Hi’.
  • You will receive a response message with a list of services to choose from.
  • Select Option 5 (View Notices).
  • The chatbot will request you to insert either your RSA ID number or the notice number.
  • You will then be presented with an Active Fine List of all your fines and prompted to select a fine you wish to pay.
  • A link to make payment will be sent.
  • Click on the link, then follow the prompts to complete your payment.

Alternatively, motorists who prefer in-person payments can walk in at selected Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) offices on Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 15:00.

The Ekurhuleni municipality urges motorists to not use the PayCity website to pay for any fines going forward.

Motorists who do not reside in the metro, but want to settle Ekurhuleni traffic fines can also make use of the new WhatsApp payment system.
