The tech world is abuzz with rumours and leaks surrounding the imminent launch of Apple's fourth-generation budget-friendly device, the iPhone SE 4.

This model offers substantial upgrades compared to its predecessors, seamlessly integrating popular modern design elements with cutting-edge features from the iPhone 14, 15, and 16, all while maintaining an affordable price point.

Recent reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggest that Apple might unveil the iPhone SE 4 as early as February 11, 2025. However, some sources still point towards a March launch, because that’s when the current iPhone SE 2022 debuted three years ago.

Unlike previous major releases, this iPhone SE 4 announcement is expected to be made via a press release rather than a grand event.

Design and Features

The iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to stray from the dated iPhone 8-era design in favour of the modern iPhone 14-esque look, featuring an edge-to-edge screen interrupted by a notch for Face ID. This represents a significant shift from the outdated Touch ID Home button of its predecessors.

In line with EU regulations and recent trends in iPhones (starting from iPhone 15), the new model will replace Lightning ports with USB-C1. It will also sport a single rear camera that boasts an impressive 48 MP.

Under the surface, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be powered by Apple's A18 Bionic chip, which not only promises enhanced performance compared to previous models but also support for Apple Intelligence, giving access to this suite of AI tools to a wider audience.

Software Enhancements

Considering its compatibility with Apple Intelligence features, the iPhone SE 4 will likely ship with iOS 18.3. These features include smarter Siri interactions, intelligent search capabilities in Safari, smart replies in Mail, enhanced AI tools in Messages and advanced Photos editing capabilities.

Pricing

Initial price estimates place the starting cost at around $499 (R9,200) when it goes on sale later this month.
