Eastern Cape police are searching for two people kidnapped in separate incidents over the past two days.
Police said in the first incident Juan Yang, 43, was reported missing on Thursday at around 5 pm.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said Yang's family contacted the police after being unable to reach her.
"Yang’s vehicle, a white Volkswagen Polo, was later found abandoned in Sakela Street, KwaZakhele. At this stage, no further details are available."
In the second incident, Arshad Mahmood, 47, was kidnapped outside his business premises in Korster on Friday morning just before 6 am.
"According to reports, five unidentified suspects arrived in a black JWM double cab vehicle and, at gunpoint, forced Mahmood into the vehicle before fleeing the scene."
Van Rensburg said the motives behind these kidnappings remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
Police have opened cases of kidnapping and are urging anyone with information that could assist in tracing the victims to contact Captain Christian Rowan on 082 442 1457, or call SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or visit the nearest police station. All information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and callers may remain anonymous.
This week, three people were released in kidnapping incidents in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
In KZN, businessman Zakariyah Desai who was snatched outside Mosque in September 2024 was released after five months in captivity.
In the Eastern Cape nine-year-old Emaan Fatima who was kidnapped while walking home from school in Buffalo Flat in East London was released. It is understood a ransom was paid.
Another businessman was released 24 hours after he was kidnapped outside his workplace on Cuyler Street in Kruisrivier.
Ebrahim Moosa, 74, was released on Wednesday. Police said no details were available.
