A TikToker was left shocked after a mother sent out a detailed list of rules for birthday gifts for her child’s party.
Three days before the birthday celebration, the mother texted all the parents who had RSVP’d, outlining strict guidelines for gift-giving.
“We have a strict rhetoric we would like you parents to follow when picking out gifts,” the message read.
Among the rules was a ban on colourful gifts.
Additionally, the gifts were not allowed to make noise, had to be waste-free, and could not be made of plastic.
After checking online what she meant by “waste-free” she discovered that it meant no plastic packaging whatsoever.
If parents found the rules too challenging, the mother suggested they opt for a handmade card instead.
The mother of the birthday girl even discouraged store-bought cards, as they would contribute to waste.
The TikToker called the requests “extreme.”
She added, “At that point, we didn’t even want to go to the party. I didn’t want to make a mistake and be the one who broke the rules. It was so much easier in the ’90s.”

The clip, which has garnered over two million views, went viral, with thousands of users sharing their thoughts in the comments.
Some offered creative suggestions for gifts that would comply with the rules.
One person joked, “I would simply gift a blanket,” while another quipped, “Bring a potato. It follows all the rules.”
A third user suggested, “Go to Home Depot and buy a block of wood!”
Others recommended practical alternatives, such as giving money in a handmade card or gift vouchers.
