South African rock legends, Prime Circle, have recently released a powerful new single, “Standing Over Me”, along with its official music video.
The release marks a significant moment for the band as they embrace a bold new chapter following a seven-year hiatus.
Featuring Gavin Edwards on vocals and guitar, Marco Gomes on bass, Dale Schnettler on drums, Neil Breytenbach on keyboards and Dirk Bisschoff on guitar, “Standing Over Me” promises to resonate deeply with listeners.
The single, which was released on Friday, February 7, in South Africa and Germany, addresses the experience of abuse with a message centred on resilience and empowerment.
Gavin Edwards, the band’s new frontman shared: “This song is about reclaiming your power. It’s a reminder that no matter what you’ve been through, you have the strength to rise above it and move forward.”
Musically, “Standing Over Me” showcases Prime Circle’s signature heavy rock style, a sound that has always captivated audiences.
“Standing Over Me” is part of their album, “The World We Know”, which debuted on all streaming platforms last November.
According to a statement, the album signifies not just a return, but an evolution for Prime Circle, as it integrates their classic rock sound with fresh energy and introspective lyrics.
“The World We Know” features ten tracks, including fan-favourites “Better Days” and “What We Got”, both of which are currently enjoying airtime on 27 radio stations across the country.
Since its release, the album has amassed over 41 million impacts.
As the band gears up for the official release in March, ahead of their German tour, bassist Marco Gomes expressed their excitement.
“We’re beyond excited to share this new music live with our fans. This album represents a new era for Prime Circle and we can’t wait to celebrate it together in Johannesburg.”
The album was produced by the band's longtime German collaborator Timon Seidl and engineered by South Africa’s Howie Combrink.
“The album features a mix of powerful anthems, introspective ballads, and genre-blending tracks that reflect the band’s growth and commitment to creating music that resonates globally.
“The past year has seen a remarkable transformation for Prime Circle with the addition of Gavin Edwards. This renewed energy has propelled them beyond their initial plans for an EP, resulting in a full-length album and a wealth of new material for the future,” read the statement.
∎ Tickets to attend the album launch at The Venue, Melrose Arch, Johannesburg on March 1, are R250 and can be purchased at Quicket.
