Some films from the early 2000s just refuse to fade into the background, and “Coyote Ugly” is one of them.

More than two decades after its release, this musical drama remains a fan favourite, a true “comfort movie” for fans who can’t get enough of its rebellious energy, empowering female leads, and, of course, that unforgettable soundtrack.

Directed by David McNally, “Coyote Ugly” took the world by storm in 2000 with its mix of wild bar antics, heartfelt moments, and pop-rock attitude.

Set in the busy streets of New York City bar of the same name, the film follows aspiring singer Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo), who finds herself working as a bartender at the infamous Coyote Ugly.

The Coyotes - bold, fearless, and full of charisma - turn the bar into a spectacle, dancing on countertops and leading the crowd in raucous singalongs.

Through it all, Violet gains confidence, finds her voice, and learns what it takes to survive in the big city.

But the magic of “Coyote Ugly” was in the culture it built. Fans have long described it as the ultimate “feel-good” film, a go-to for those who crave nostalgia, empowerment, and a touch of early 2000s chaos.

With quotable lines like, "If you wanna get to the top, you gotta have fun!" and high-energy scenes that have stood the test of time, it's no wonder that the film remains iconic.

Now fans have even more reason to celebrate. As the film’s 25th anniversary approaches, the “Coyote Ugly” cast is reuniting for a special screening and Q&A session at a theatre in Los Angeles on 26 February.

Stars Piper Perabo, Tyra Banks, Maria Bello, Bridget Moynahan, Izabella Miko, Melanie Lynskey, John Goodman, Adam Garcia, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are all set to return, marking a long-awaited reunion.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Global Empowerment Mission in its efforts to support those affected by the devastating LA Fires.

Beyond the nostalgia, “Coyote Ugly” continues to be celebrated for its portrayal of strong, independent women who take charge of their own stories. Based on the real-life Coyote Ugly Saloon chain, the film captured the spirit of female empowerment.

Additionally, the film’s signature song, "Can't Fight the Moonlight" by LeAnn Rimes, is having a viral moment, reigniting interest in the movie and proving that its magic still resonates today.

The track, which topped charts upon its release, became synonymous with “Coyote Ugly”, and remains one of the most recognisable songs of the era.
