THE father of slain businessman Shailen Singh believes justice has prevailed after one of the men accused of killing his son, lost his bail appeal in the Durban High Court on Thursday morning.
A Durban High Court judge dismissed security boss Ferrel Govender’s appeal against a magistrate's refusal of his bail last month.
Speaking to the POST after the judgment, Shailen’s father, Pradeep Singh, said: “Justice has been served."
“Our family and all those that knew Shailen applaud the investigating team and the justice department. Justice has prevailed. While it would have been much better had he still been with us, and we didn't have to go through the trauma, we believe that this is the first step in there being justice for Shailen.”

Singh said everyday was difficult without his son.
“The pain of that day never fades, and though time moves forward, the ache and grief of not having Shailen with us remains. Furthermore, my grandson Reyansh, who is almost six months old, had his first solid meal yesterday (Wednesday). These are moments that his father should have been here to witness. Daily we witness our baby doing something new, and while we are happy, it is not the same without him enjoying those moments with us.
“Shailen’s memory lives on in our heart. His spirit and love he shared will never be forgotten. We remain united in our fight for the justice he deserves,” he said.

Ferrel, 40, the Group CEO of Pro Secure, a security company, together with his brother, Darren Govender, 35, were charged with murder.
The 32-year-old owner of Shails Trans, a logistics company, was killed in a hail of bullets while seated in his vehicle in a restaurant's parking lot in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga, on December 29.
The father of one was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
The brothers handed themselves over to police on January 1.
During the bail application heard in the Durban Magistrate’s Court, it was heard that the alleged motive was due to a “love relationship”.
Singh was being accused of having an affair with Ferrel’s girlfriend.
At the time, Darren, a construction company owner, was granted R200 000 bail. While Ferrel, a father of three, was denied bail.
Ferrel, who was represented by Michael Hellens SC instructed by attorney Ravindra Maniklall, took the bail ruling on appeal to the high court.
Last Tuesday, following the arguments by senior State advocate Krishen Shah and Hellens, judgment was reserved.
The case returns to court in May.
