Concerns are being raised on the Cape Flats after a group of jongens posted a video of them firing a machine gun.
In a recent disturbing viral video, a man in pajama pants is seen standing in an informal settlement surrounded by shacks which is believed to have taken place in Lavender Hill with a military weapon known as an Uzi firing multiple gunshots.
The man first fires a couple of shots before changing the settings and then starts opening fire continuously.
Other men amped up for the shooting can be heard saying in the background, ‘salute’ before another man appears kaal bo-lyf into the camera saying: ‘Grrr grrr grrr’.
The man making the video is heard asking: "Should I stop the video", when the men replied: "Huh uh, is jy mal. Os wil it dan nog hoor my bru.”
The man then starts shooting again multiple times.
A dog is seen running and another person appears in the direction of which the man is shooting. The man who is kaal bo-lyf can be heard saying: "Uit die pad uit", before the video ends.
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Minister Anroux Marais expressed her concerns regarding the disturbing video footage circulating on social media.
She said: "The proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition in our communities can largely be attributed to gangs operating in these communities and it remains a big concern.
"The South African Police Service in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies are continuing with targeted operations to get illegal guns and ammunition off our streets."
The comments section is filled with questions on where the men found this Israeli military weapon.
One commented: “So ask yourself where did this guy get this gun? Do you think he has access to such weapons or was it given to them by the police or government so that he can kill his fellow coloured brothers.”
Nog ene said: ‘What goes up must come down so now I wanna know where did the bullets land and was anyone injured.’
Another angry user added: “Grrr grrr grrr but you live in a blikhok. Focus on building a house and leaving a legacy for your family, work hard and invest in something for your children’s future, you’re playing with guns.’
