‘BAKKA’ WANTS BAIL

ALLEGED leader of the Fancy Boys gang Abubaker Clive Adams is set to fight for his release, after being busted in a takedown operation last week. 

The man known as “Bakka” was busted during a takedown operation at his larney house in Durbanville on Wednesday morning and made his first appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Sources reveal  the notorious gang boss is believed to be behind a slew of hostile takeovers in various communities including Lentegeur, Heideveld, Manenberg and various others.

For several years now rumors have swirled that the gang wanted to take over the Cape Flats and allegedly started drug turf wars with various rival gangs including the Americans, Hard Livings and Dixie Boys.

At the time of his arrest, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said the intelligence-driven takedown operation led by police members attached to provincial and Mitchells Plain detectives, detained four gang leaders aged between 25 and 43, who are notorious for instilling fear in the lives of community members in Mitchells Plain.

Adams appeared alongside Clinton Manuel, Denovan Bendall and Bradwin Ruiters. The men face various charges ranging from murder to firearm-related charges dating back to 2013. 

During court proceedings the state revealed that six more suspects were set to be added to the charge sheet while other accused were being requisitioned from local prisons.

Addressing the court, Adams’ lawyer, Advocate Bruce Hendricks, told the court his client was ready to proceed with a bail hearing while the three manskappe had opted to stay in the mang. The case was postponed to 10 April for the bail hearing. 

Speaking to the Daily Voice, Hendricks says: “We hope the state has their ducks in a row as they are charging people who are already deceased. 

“In addition, there are discrepancies in the indictment where the state alleges they have killed the same person twice, several years apart.” 

Michael Jacobs of the Lentegeur Community Police Forum said they welcome the arrest and call on the courts to deny his bail application, saying: “The Community of Lentegeur can finally breathe a sigh of relief. 

“After the police arrested the Fancy Boys gang member and emptied out their ammunition and gun storage everything went dead quiet. It is not a coincidence that the minute their guns got taken away the shootings stopped.

“These arrests proved what the community has long being saying that they are behind the gang violence in our community and other areas on the Cape Flats.

“We are calling on police to intensify their investigations into all the smaller leaders of the Fancy Boys to curtail their criminal activities and help bring peace to the Cape Flats.”
