WATCH: DA demands SAHRC ‘step up over KZN human rights crisis’

Durban - The DA in KwaZulu-Natal took to the streets on Monday and headed to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) offices in Durban to demand a response to the human rights crisis in the province.
DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers led the picket and handed over a Memorandum of Demands to the SAHRC.
The DA says the memorandum follows as ongoing attempts by the party to engage with the SAHRC continue to be snubbed.
Rodgers said: “The document relates to inhumane living conditions suffered by thousands of flood victims at eThekwini community halls. In a new development, the group who were being housed at the Royal Hotel have been moved into accommodation where they have had no running water for four days.
“The memorandum also relates to the collapse of sanitation infrastructure within the municipality, which is now having a disastrous effect on thousands of residents.”
The demands include an action plan from the SAHRC regarding steps they are taking to investigate and protect flood victims living in halls and temporary shelters.
The DA demands that the SAHRC provide feedback to the demands by Friday, November 18.
“Failing which we will approach the Public Protector.”
