Cape Town - Three self-styled informants were focused on five months ago when the police’s Major-General Jeremy Vearey publicly accused Community Safety MEC Dan Plato of orchestrating a smear campaign to tarnish his name.
Vearey said Plato was doing so by circulating affidavits from these informants accusing him of involvement with gang bosses and in various crimes.
But the National Prosecuting Authority found Plato did nothing wrong, and that none of the information supplied by the informants led to action being taken against Vearey.
Weekend Argus has tried to keep track of the main informants and their accusations:
* Pierre Theron, who in an affidavit made in October claimed Vearey received R2 million from jailed Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir. Over several weeks he told Weekend Argus he was trying to hitch-hike from Gauteng to Cape Town.
* Sylvano Hendricks, a transgender woman who calls herself Queenie. In April she warned outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela a gang boss had been paid R740 000 to plan Madonsela’s murder.
Queenie claimed Vearey was working with this gang boss. She is active on Facebook and often posts photographs of herself socialising.
* Pierre Mark Anthony Wyngaardt, from Tafelsig, claimed three years ago that Vearey was linked to gangsters. When tracked down at the time, he described himself as a “prophet” who was “guided by angels”.
Weekend Argus has not managed to locate him.
